Dr. Chris Gibson of Gibson Chiropractic in Sacramento treats the spine as well as many other body areas prone to range-of-motion injuries. If you have questions about chiropractic care for shoulder pain, our chiropractor can put you at ease. We’ve provided the answers to several frequently asked questions we receive about treatment for shoulder pain.

What Kind of Shoulder Problems can a Chiropractor Treat?

We see many patients with various shoulder problems, including:

  • Dislocated shoulders
  • Shoulder Bursae
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Rotator Cuff Injury
  • Strains & Sprains
  • Tendinitis

Why do Shoulder Injuries Occur so Frequently?

The shoulder has a very complex anatomy that makes it prone to injury. The rotator cuff muscles and four tendons wrap around the shoulder joint. While the shoulder is the body’s most mobile joint, it is also the most complex joint.

The bands of muscle that wrap around the shoulder joint can very easily stretch or tear. We treat many patients with sports injuries, auto injuries or other traumatic injuries, all of which have created shoulder pain and inflammation. Poor posture, such as a person hunching forward over a computer, makes the shoulder muscles weak, and neck injuries can also radiate pain into the shoulder area.

Can a Chiropractor Help Treat my Shoulder?

Absolutely! Dr. Gibson will first examine you and do range of motion tests to determine the extent of your shoulder or neck injury. The doctor performs gentle shoulder adjustments to shift the joint backward and forward to realign everything, and may even do a chiropractic adjustment on your neck and upper back to alleviate pressure on the shoulder. We’ll show you how to improve your posture and prescribe exercises that strengthen the rotator cuff.
